Gardening Tips For The Home Gardener

Fresh produce When gardening, the main thing that you need to know is... life's a garden... dig it! There are many things that you can do to grow a bountiful home garden. I am just going to share a few of the things that I do, and believe in, with you. Surely you didn't think I would give you all my secrets?

Before you plant take time to prepare your soil properly by tilling and adding compost to your soil. By using compost in your garden, you not only ensure that you plant in fertile soil but you also will keep your yard and garden waste out of the local landfill. It is a far better, cheaper and healthier option than using artificial fertilizer and it produces great results. If you do not already own a compost bin and compost screener, I recommend that you check out some of our products we manufacture for gardening.

Use crop rotation. Different plants deplete your soil of different nutrients. If possible, you should rotate your plants every year. The rotation should include not planting an area every seven years. I realize that can be a challenge if your gardening area is small, however any effort made towards that will help your garden.

Never crowd your plants. It is wise to follow the planting instructions on your seed packets and starter plants. All plants are living beings and they need food. By cramming a lot of plants in to a small area, you are depriving your plants of needed nutrition. Your plants will be undernourished and will bear less fruit.

Do not water your garden when the sun is high. Watering on a sunny day will cause the sun to be reflected in the water, frying your plants. If you need to water, do so at dawn or dusk. Watering at dawn is best since watering at dusk will leave your plants moist as night approaches and can attract insects.

Keep your garden clean. Tilling and hoeing your garden will aerate your soil and remove weeds. Weeds in your garden will consume nutrients that are better used by your plants. Weeds will also hold moisture increasing the risk of decease and insect infestation.

Fresh produce Okay, the rest remains my secret for now. Happy gardening fellow gardeners and please remember to look at some of our products we manufacture for gardening.
